On a sunny day in spring, with the white campions in bloom and the bluebells beginning to flower, the Wenault, the name given to the forested side of Caerphilly Mountain leading down to Rhiwbina, becomes a magical playground dotted with streams, stiles, stepping stones and the dens constructed by other explorers.
These woods are a mystical realm where parents can let their children roam safely and relax in the knowledge that they are fulfilling their need to explore the natural world.
Following the mountain down to the green meadow at the bottom, you can find the perfect picnic spot where the children can race or potter about in the stream. This will also give you a great workout as you climb back up the mountain to the car park at the top. Enjoy the blissful sunshine this season!
